Rome, the Eternal City, Capital of the Republic of Italy, was the Capital of the Roman Empire. Heart of Catholic Christianity, is the only city in the world hosting within it a foreign State, the enclave of the Vatican City: this is why it is often defined as the capital of two states.
Rome is the city with the highest concentration of historical and architectural landmarks in the world, and its historic center, bounded by the perimeter of the Aurelian walls, is an expression of the historical, artistic and cultural heritage of Europe and the Western world. In 1980, along with the Vatican and the Basilica of San Paolo fuori le mura, was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
HOST VENUE: FORO ITALICO
Foro Italico is Rome’s historical symbol of sport and the central hub of major international sports events (Italian Open, UEFA Champions League Final, World Swimming Championship, World Beach Volleyball Championship). Inspired by the architecture of Imperial Rome, Foro Italico was built between 1929 and 1938 as an area dedicated to sports endeavours.
